During WW2, butter was somehow needed for munitions manufacture, and a substitute for the American public was needed. Margarine was originally manufactured to fatten turkeys. When it killed the turkeys, the people who had put all the money into the research wanted a payback so they put their heads together to figure out what to do with this product. It was a white substance with no food appeal so they added a yellow coloring and sold it to people to eat. When margarine first came on the market you had to mix in the "color" packet to make it yellowish. It was called ‘butter yellow’ which thru a relatively short period of time, was found to make people sick. This led to beta carotene being substituted, for coloring. If you find people to ask, they will remember the old Butter Yellow, when it was introduced.
Generally, fat increases the absorption of protein, and obviously fat soluble vitamins. Much to both shock and humor of my patients, I have also been telling my patients that they can put the margarine on a plate outside, and come back in 20 years, and it’ll look exactly the same.- barring any heat induced melt factor. No bugs, no mold, no nothing.
Margarine is only ONE MOLECULE away from being PLASTIC...
You can try this little test for yourself:
Purchase a tub of margarine and leave it in your garage or shaded area. Within a couple of days you will note
No flies, not even those pesky fruit flies will go near it (that should tell you something). It does not rot or smell differently because it has no nutritional value; nothing will grow on it.
